GIRL TALK
If you have half an hour to kill (which I know you do, since you were bored enough to come to this blog...), then I highly recommend you check this documentary on everyone's favourite Gregg Gillis. Even though it's really more of an extended music video for a mixtape. Saw him at Sled Island, and damn...those toilet paper blowers are awesome.

Gold Panda
I heard this song on friday, and it's been on repeat ever since. And I don't know why. There's something irritatingly catchy about it, but I can't put my finger on it. Just something that makes me want to press the Repeat button on iTunes until it displays the Repeat 1 logo....and just let it play.
A little about Gold Panda...
"Gold Panda is a left-field producer and remixer called Derwin who makes instrumental soundtracks to half-remembered, dreamy summer days. He scours charity shops for old records and VHS tapes to turn into distorted samples, and wraps them in minimal, warm beats.
He is obsessed with Japan and its culture, and once sold his entire record collection to pay for a Japanese diploma at the School of Oriental and African Studies, before moving there for a year."
Awesome.

THE PASS
K I'm in a blogging mood right now. But if you like Phoenix, I think you'll really like The Pass. Their new album, Burst, is out September 21st, but you can check it out now.
One of the few bands that I'm genuinely excited about, and I think will blow up the scene pretty soon. Vultures is solid gold.

JUNIP
A lot of hype following Swedish band Junip, thanks to their lead singer, the one and only Jose Gonzalez. They gave away their new Fields EP for free on Sept. 14th, and in case you missed it, be sure to check this. Favourite so far is Sweet and Bitter, it hooks you from the beginning.

Beloved Brooklyn duo Matt and Kim just released this new track, off their new album set to be released 11/2. They're a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, cause they're so feel-good. But enough of that, check/download the new track. Digging the funky tuba bassline. Such a good end of summer beat.

dog days of summer
Today in Toronto, it was 38 with humidity. That is ridiculous. So with all my newfound time spent indoors with air conditioning, I thought I'd get back into posting music.
Just got back from Buffalo where my friend showed me this song. Definitely a light, feelgood summer song. Don't let the bands name fool you, they're pretty good.
also, I promise that I'll start posting stuff that's been collecting on my computer all summer.

Most of you are in the middle of exams, and need some easy listening. Even though you try and tell yourself that Enter Sandman helps get you psyched up for studying, we all know it doesn't actually help. So here's some easy listening, courtesy of jj, an artist that I've featured before, and who are touring with The XX. Seriously, enough of the double-letters. japanese gentlemen
okay, completely not music related in any way.....but guys, check this out. This site is devoted to teaching you how to be like the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in the World. But it starts off with some pretty simple stuff, like how to properly iron your shirt. To the guys reading this, I know you all like to look like scruffy lumberjacks these days, but learn how to be a gentleman too. You can start by checking out this video, and then following this LINK (how to shine your shoes, make cocktails, party tricks....you name it. just follow the left hand navigation bar).
who knew watching a guy ironing could be entertaining? i guess i'm just nerdy like that. but seriously guys, stop rocking wrinkly shit all the time. you look like that guy on the corner of 97th.

HIATUS STATUS
It's pretty obvious that I've been away from blogging for a while. Why? I just got sick of posting stuff that I wasn't truly in to, but rather stuff that was popular. I'm talking about Top40 remixes and stuff like that. I don't even dig that music, but I put it up because everyone wanted it.
Instead, from now on, I'm going to try and stay true to my roots and only put up stuff that I genuinely enjoy. If you don't like it, and would rather hear stuff about my shawtay being like a melody in my head, tough shit. Go party on limewire.
Also, stop being creepers, and let me know what you like, and what you don't. Drop some comments or something. I'm probably also taking this blog in a bit of a different direction, since the e-police are committing hate crimes on music blogs, I'm going to diversify a bit. I'll still do music, but throw in some other stuff too.
Now that I'm done being a whiny internet bitch, peep this new track by Charles Hamilton. I listened to his mixtapes after I first heard him on Entourage, but didn't really dig a lot of his stuff. He's pretty hit or miss for me, but this new track is definitely a hit. A mellow yellow track, in honor of a family member that he was staying with, but didn't know, and saw the impact of their death on his family.
P.s. I still don't get why all his mixtapes and stuff are related to Sonic the Hedgehog. Seriously. Why.
Download: Charles Hamilton - Choices (A Wave for Alex)

R.I.P. GIRL TALK, E-603, SUPER MASH BROS.
Now you may be saying, "holy shit they all died?". well girl you just got punk'd.
My boy Grant (thanks city slicker) hooked me up with this bundle of joy....and let me tell you, it's SLAYING the scene. It's by this guy called Speaky, and it's good stuff. Let's just say he samples a lot of stuff. I'm talking about stuff like Band of Horses, Lil Wayne, Blink 182, Lady Gaga, Verve, Busta Rhymes, Coldplay, RHCP, 50 Cent, Billy Talent, Dr. Dre, Vitamin C (yeah...Graduation...you remember that shit.).....you name it, it's in there.
I know stuff like White Panda is blowing up right now, and everyone can mix shit on their comp in their basement, but you definitely should check this out. The thing with this stuff is, it becomes outdated so quickly. Remember when Girl Talk dropped Night Ripper? You rarely hear half of the stuff he samples anymore, other than the classics.
But enough talk, let the drummer kick. I know this is going to be on repeat alllllllllllll through st. patty's parties.

Okay so I heard this song a while back, but didn't think much of it. Then on Friday night, while at a super seedy strip club (I know, don't hate), the "DJ"/MC played a mix of this song, right in between some Poison and Beyonce.
Anyways, Dragonette's a pretty dope band from Toronto, and I remember when I saw them a few years ago, they were pretty funkin'. And let's just say that Michael Van She does a helluva good job mixing this, adding some serious flair to this track, while keeping the original intact.

KIDS
Ahhhh yes. MGMT. Formerly the Management. Probably one of my favourite songs of the past few years, I remember listening to Kids for the entirety of the summer of 2007 with C-Beck, after discovering them from this video. This was before they even had a drummer. Kickin' it old school.
Anyways, fast forward to 2010, where my interest in dubstep has grown exponentially in the past week. I don't know why, but it has. So let's mix dubstep and MGMT. There are thousands of remixes of this song, and only a few really get me groovin', but this is one of them. Dig it.

This track is courtesy of the the swedes.....Mille. And it get's me jacked. For some reason, this song really makes me want to air guitar, and just shred. It's kinda got like an 80's feel to it, where it would be the backing track to Rocky training or something, while pounding on meat.

Hmmm so apparently Tswift x U2 is "so cheesy and smoochy", and was successful in "ruining with or without you", so I guess I'll have to post something a little more ballsy. CLF, this is for you. A hard-hitting Jay-Z/young hova/h to the izzo/jiggaman/iceberg slim/j hova that will slap you in the face around 2:40. A nice throwback to the original track. Let's kick things off with an flashback track that's still gold in my books. Know why? Cause it's a cover of an even older track, that everyone loves.
The legendary GnR. Guns n Roses baby. I still have my old Use Your Illusion tapes somewhere too. Anyways, dig it, it was covered by Flat Pack, and then edited by Mylo, a big name in the game. An angelic voice for a classic, with a funkadelic beat? Why not.
